ARE YOU READY FOR THE BIG ONE?

Do you really know about 'THE BIG ONE'? If not, then click this.

The areas that will experience the strongest earthquake or the ground shaking will be Marikina, Cainta, half of TayTay, Pateros and Taguig. However, other places will also experience the ground shaking but these five places will be experiencing the strongest ground shaking since some of them are located/near in the fault line.

MARIKINA, BARANGKA.

  • In our research, we conclude that Barangka of Marikina can able to experience one of the strongest ground shaking compare to the other parts of Philippines.

  • Someone prophesied that there will be 34,000 to 40,000 people will die, 120,000 will be inflict in pain and over 500,00 houses and buildings will be destroyed if the BIG ONE occurs. But DRRM prophesied that there will be 64,000 people will die if our country is not well-prepared.
  • We also knew that the different cities of Makati, Malabon, Pasay and Caloocan  which are far from the fault line will still feel the same intensity leves as those near the fault line.
  • Some prophesied that the BIG ONE is also just like what happened to JAPAN that occured year 2011, 11th of March with the magnitude of 9.0. (Click this to watch the video of JAPAN earthquake 2011)

WHAT TO DO WHEN THE BIG ONE OCCURS?

  • DROP, COVER, HOLD.

If the ground starts shaking, run into something (or a furniture) that can able to cover your head and body from the falling structures. You can go under the table, bed, chair, cabinet or anything that will help you prevent something to fall in you.

If you're indoors, just stay there. Let us always remember to get under or hold onto a desk/table. You can also stand against an interior wall to be safe. Stay clear of exterior walls, glass or any heavy furniture. The kitchen is a particularly dangerous spot.

  • USE STAIRS

It is particularly dangerous to use lift (elevators) if earthquake strikes since there's a huge possibility that it will affect the engines and machines of the lift because of the strong ground shaking and it might end up being stuck. We suggest you to use stairs and go down safely but quick as possible.

If you're outside, get into the open. Stay clear of buildings, power lines or anything else that could fall on you.

  • A controversial theory which was given by Doug Copp. According to this theory objects like sofa, desk and other furniture get crushed when a roof collapses and a void (often triangular in a shape) is created around it. That's a safe place to seek cover, ideally in a foetal position.

Lie down in a foetal position next to a bed sofa or a bulky object.

  • STREETS

Pull your car to the side of the road and stop. Do not stop under anything that can fall on your car.

Pull over to the side of the road and set the parking brake. Stay inside the vehicle until the tremors are over. If power line falls on the car stay inside until a trained person removes the wire.

  • PRIORITIZE YOUR SAFETY
